Berry Server's goal is to provide low-cost and realiable VPS. Plans include best effort support and a 99% uptime guarantee. For these prices, that isn't half bad. These servers run on rented hardware from PhoenixNAP. Hardware consists on an E3 CPU and hard drives in RAID1. I've been unable to find reviews on their last offers on LowEndBox, there are two people who are having some minor issues though in their latest LowEndTalk offer thread. I'm sure they will resolve them soon. If you are a customer of Berry Servers or EpiDrive, please share your experiences with us below!

PayPal and credit/debit cards through PayPal are accepted payment methods. There's a 3-day money back guarantee, but I'm assuming that's on a first-customer, first-service basis. Additional IPv4 are available at $0.50 each, which is quite cheap. Most common OS are available. Spam, bulk email, warez, and CPU intensive scripts are not allowed. For all the details, read their Terms of Service and Privacy Policy!

Tags: seattle, ssd, USA, virpus.com, xen, xenpv Date/Time: December 28, 2014 @ 1:00 pm, by Maarten Kossen

Kenneth, from Virpus, has sent in this special offer for 25% off their VPS offering (with the exception of the base plan). The plan listed below is the only plan, with the exception of the base plan, that falls within the LowEnd pricing limits.

The offer

  • 1024MB RAM
  • 2048MB Swap
  • 4 CPU cores
  • 30GB SSD space
  • 3TB transfer
  • 1Gbps uplink
  • 1x IPv4
  • XenPV/SolusVM
  • Coupon: 25LIFE-122014
  • $5.25/month
  • Order here

Virpus is part of Wow Technologies, Inc. which is an established company. According to Kenneth, their customers include Microsoft, Moz, Vulcan, and Rosetta Stone. They have been in the VPS business since 2006. All servers will be deployed in their Seattle, WA locations. More information about that may be found here. All nodes have at least dual Intel Xeon CPUs with SSDs in hardware RAID10 and up to 2Gbps uplinks in a redundant setup: sounds like a serious setup! Reviews on their last offer, which was December 2012 (so two years ago) were actually not that good. It seems that was still in Kansas city and from what I can tell, they've been purchased by Wow Technologies later. I'm looking forward to hear from current customers to see how they are doing now.

PayPal, Credit Card, Bitcoun, and Mail In Payment are all accepted payment methods. Virpus offers a 99.9% uptime SLA and instant activation (given no fraud check trigger something, I guess). For all the details on what is and what is not allowed, please read their Terms of Service!

The hardware in Atlanta and Las Vegas consist of dual Intel Xeon L5639 CPUs, 144GB of RAM, and 4x 1TB or 2TB hard drives in RAID10. I haven't been given details on the hardware in Dallas, but it should be something along these lines as well. All IPs are direct allocations from ARIN, so in case a move is ever needed, the IPs go with you. As usual, feel free to share your experiences in the comments!

Media-Hosts – CAD$7/month or CAD$48/year 512MB OVZ in Ottowa, Canada

Tags: canada, exclusive, media-hosts.com, openvz, ottowa, ssd Date/Time: December 20, 2014 @ 1:00 am, by Maarten Kossen

Joseph, from Media-Hosts, has written us to shared this offer located in Canada. The interesting thing is, though, it's not with OVH! On top of this offer, you get the first month 50% off with the coupon LowEndSSDFirstMonth if you pay month-to-month.

The offer

  • 512MB RAM
  • 512MB vSwap
  • 15GB SSD space (RAID1)
  • 1TB traffic
  • 500Mbps uplink
  • 2x IPv4
  • /64 IPv6
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM
  • CAD$7/month ($6.65)
  • CAD$48/year ($41.39)
  • Order here

During ordering you can also opt for a non-SSD plan with 20GB HDD space, 500GB traffic, and a 200Mbps uplink at the same price.

Media-Hosts dates back to 2002 when it was initially started. In 2004 is was registered as a business and in 2012 it became part of Media-Hosts Inc., a registered Canadian company as well (registered in Ontario). They have their own ASN and are quite transparent about their network. More information about their network and the capacity available can be found here. This offer, and any of their other OpenVZ offers for that matter, are not oversold and has never been oversold; it's a policy they have sticked to since their launch. This offer is part of their OpenVZ.ca brand, so don't be confused if you see this instead of Media-Hosts during ordering. From some tiny bits I've read reviews seem to be positive. This doesn't mean we don't want to hear from you, so feel free to share your comments with us!

PayPal and Visa/MasterCard are accepted payment methods. Not much is mentioned about refunds, only that they will be given in case you are terminated (as a result of bandwidth abuse, for example). They do offer a price-freeze guarantee and a 99.9% uptime guarantee. For all the details, please read their Terms of Service.

Dmitry, from Vstoike.ru, is back with a new offer and annual pricing on one of their old offers. These are quite good prices for a KVM VPS in Russia.

256MB
  • 1 CPU core
  • 256MB RAM
  • 512MB swap
  • 10GB HDD space
  • 3TB traffic
  • 100Mbps uplink
  • 1x IPv4
  • 1x IPv6 (more free of charge)
  • KVM/SolusVM
  • No coupon required
  • $29.20/year
  • Order here
512MB
  • 1 CPU core
  • 512MB RAM
  • 1GB swap
  • 30GB HDD space
  • 3TB traffic
  • 100Mbps uplink
  • 1x IPv4
  • 1x IPv6 (more free of charge)
  • KVM/SolusVM
  • No coupon required
  • $38.10/year
  • Order here

We listed Vstoike.ru for the first time as a surprise post, without them knowing it. They caught the bug though and now send in offers regularly. These still are some of the cheapest offers I've seen so far in Russia. These VPS are hosted on modern hardware with Intel Xeon CPUs. All hardware and even the data center is Saint Petersburg is owned by Vstoike. They also have their own IPs and uplinks and provide 24×7 support. They have quite a comprehensive website, though it's completely in Russian so you'd need to use an online translation tool to read it if you don't speak any Russian. IPv6 comes standard with these machines. They seem to be using SolusVM as a control panel. The default port speed is 100Mbps, but it may be upgraded for a fee to either 1Gbps or 10Gbps. Please let us know if you're a customer or if you decided to try them out. Your opinion is always valued. Reviews on their last offer were quite positive. Enjoy this offer!

Vstoike.ru accepts WebMoney, PayPal, credit cards, and some other payments methods for payments. Various OS can be installed and I believe they're even willing to add an ISO per your request. Servers come pre-installed with the OS you select during checkout. Tor, IRC, and VPN are allowed. SPAM, viruses or controlling viruses, and DDoS are not allowed. Their Terms of Service should be read before ordering, as usual. All payment methods are also listed on this page.

Greg mentions that R1Soft Backup is available on these servers, but I'm not sure whether that's a paid add-on or not. This server is located in their recently opened privately owned data center in West Virginia and features battery backup, redundant cooling, and a backup generator. Here's some more information (including pictures) from Reliable Hosting Services: http://reliablehostingservices.net/berkeley.php. I've not been able to find many reviews on these guys, so I'm looking forward what you have to say!

You can get a refund within two days on delivery of the server, except in cases of abuse. They have a strict policy of no SPAM or OPT-IN/OUT Emails and Email marketing; only content legal in the USA is allowed on these servers. For more information, have a read of their Terms of Service.

VikingLayer is currently run by Philip himself, who is located in Sweden. He told us he'd be working to become a sole proprietorship in the future. Their WHOIS information is currently public, which is a good thing. Host nodes contain Intel Xeon E5-1600 Series CPUs, 64GB of RAM, and 3x 2TB hard drives in a RAID setup. VikingLayer is looking to expand to Stockholm, Sweden soon, after which they would like to expand to the United States. These offers come with OVH's Anit-DDoS Pro, of which the most interesting feature is permanent DDoS mitigation. Servers come with a /112 IPv6, so you're future-proof! If you have experience with VikingLayer or decide to give them a shot, please share your experiences with us in the comments!

PayPal and BitPay are accepted payment methods. They have a verified PayPal Business account. (D)DoS attacks, port scanning, Tor exit nodes, cryptocoin mining, and SPAM are all strictly prohibited. No illegal activity allowed either and you should be a good neighbor (or you will be contacted by them to discuss the situation; server termination will be used as a last resort. Those who receive frequent attacks that cannot be handled by OVH will be terminated eventually as well. For all the details, please read their Terms of Service.

  • 4x IPv6
  • KVM/Virtualizor
  • $7/month
  • Order with SAS
  • Order with SSD

Mean Servers has been launched in August of 214, so they're quite young. Their WHOIS information is public and I have found a record of them being a registered business which may be found here. They seem to have been established at the end of may. They use a DC in downtown Denver and that's not the most common location for hosting, especially not around LowEndb. They use Dell and HP servers. Support is not outsourced overseas and never will be, according to David. They do offer 24/7/365 support and a 99.9% uptime guarantee. I look forward to hearing people's experiences with these guys!

PayPal, credit cards, and Bitcoins are payment methods available. No refunds are given. There's plenty of upgrade offers available as well as add-ons during ordering, but those would bring the price over our $7 limit. As always, please read their Terms of Service before ordering.

SpotVPS – $3.99/month 2GB OpenVZ in Buffalo or Las Vegas

Tags: buffalo, las vegas, openvz, spotvps.com, USA Date/Time: December 14, 2014 @ 1:00 am, by Maarten Kossen

Jacob, from SpotVPS, writes us to share this special offer with you. This offer is available in both Buffalo, New York; and Las Vegas, Nevada; both in the USA.

The offer

  • 2GB RAM
  • 20GB HDD space
  • 4 vCPU cores
  • 1TB transfer
  • 1Gbps uplink
  • 1x IPv4
  • OpenVZ/SolusVM
  • $3.99/month or $34.99/year
  • Order here

SpotVPS is owned by ComfortHost, a VAT registered company that was founded in 2004. They seem to be registered in Spain as "Foroquimica SL" and have been registered since 2003. My Spanish isn't that good, so I can't tell you much more about them. If you do speak Spanish, here's the business registration information I was able to find. On the last offer, which was over a year ago, reviews were a bit mixed. I'm looking forward what you guys have to say right now! Unfortunately, I wasn't given any information on the hardware these VPS run on or when IPv6 might be available (I'm guessing that'd be "soon", but soon is too late; it's 2014 for crying out loud!). Hopefully one of the SpotVPS staff can enlighten us when responding to queries here. For now, enjoy!

You can pay with PayPal or Credit Cards through PayPal. SpotVPS offers 24/7 support. There's a 30-day money back guarantee in place, so you're safe to try these guys out. I'm guessing this is limited to new customers only, so be careful if you're already a customer; you probably won't get your money back if you ordered "in error". Before you order, please read the Acceptable Use Policy and Terms of Service!

Abdullah and Emil celebrated the third anniversary of HostHatch earlier this year with the addition of Los Angeles and Stockholm, as well as an overhaul of their product line. HostHatch is a registered company in Tampa, Florida, USA. They are known for their owned hardware and transparency about it. You can find some pictures of their hardware on their Facebook page. Like noted before, HostHatch has invested heavily in new hardware, which allows them to offer more resources for the same price as before. They've also started offering DDoS-protected IPs in the Netherlands and Los Angeles (USA), with protection up to 20Gbps/8M PPS. Their new nodes are equipped with Intel E5-1650v2 CPU, at least 64GB DDR3 RAM, and the new LSI SAS3 RAID controllers. Servers are backed up weekly. All offers also come with one free Comodo SSL certificate per IP address. Reviews of HostHatch are quite positive and I myself have had nothing but good experiences with them. Feel free to share your! experiences with them here in the comments!

HostSailor is a company based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, who have their own infrastructure located in the Databarn DC in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. All of the equipment (switches, routers, servers) is owned. They're also a Microsoft Partner, RIPE member, and LACNIC member, so they own their own IP ranges. All host nodes are connected with a 1Gbps uplink, but according to Alexander, they're working to upgrade all those uplinks to 10Gbps. Their backbones are also getting upgrades from 2x 10Gbps to 4x 10Gbps, so there should be plenty of room for traffic there! Server specifications are available if you click 'Read more'. All incoming traffic is free of charge and you can basically get as much IPv6 addresses as you want (within reason). If you have experience with HostSailor or decide to try them out as a result of this post, please share your experiences with us in the comments or at LowEndTalk.com!

PayPal, Credit Card, Bank Transfer, CashU, PaySafeCard, Skrill, WebMoney, Bitcoin, Western Union / Moneygram, and Perfect Money are all accepted payment methods. If you have trouble getting money to these guys, you may want to reconsider where that troubles lies ;-) All servers support TUN, TAP, and PPTP by default, include backups, and offer "flexible upgrading/easy scalability. As usual, please read their Terms of Service before putting in an order!

QuadraNet – $5.81/month KVM in Los Angeles – Free goodies in the USA

QuadraNet – $5.81/month KVM in Los Angeles – Free goodies in the USA

Tags: cloud, dallas, freebies, kvm, los angeles, miami, quadranet.com, ssd, USA Date/Time: December 5, 2014 @ 1:00 pm, by Rashid Alkhaili

Dustin, from QuadraNet, has sent in this cloud offer to LowEndBox which is available in three US locations. On top of that, they're sending out free goodies to those living in the continental US!

QuadraNet InfraBlue
  • 1 dedicated vCPU core
  • 512MB RAM
  • 1024MB SWAP
  • 15GB SSD space
  • Dallas and Miami offer SAN storage, not SSD
  • 1TB traffic
  • 1Gbps uplink
  • 1x IPv4
  • IPv6
  • KVM/Custom
  • $5.81/month
  • Order here

With every order, you can request (either by opening a ticket or replying here with your invoice number and choice) either a free QuadraNet 8GB USB drive or a free QuadraNet mouse pad. This offer is only available to those living in the continental US; people from outside the US or those living in remote areas can pick a free $5 account credit! QuadraNet is a registered INC, which has been running since 2001. The virtual cloud servers are hosted on nodes equipped with AMD processors, ZFS RAIDZ SAN, and 48GB of RAM per blade – however, the whole setup is decentralized, thus if a node fails for any reason the containers are automatically launched on another node. On top of that, each node has dual power feeds and the network is redundant at the router level. They have been featured once on LowEndBox before, and the reviews have been very pleasing. Please do leave a review or a comment below if you have used them.

Something that sets QuadraNet apart is their Asian optimized IPv4 addresses, which can be ordered/set while deploying your cloud instance, and costs around $3/month only. These Asian optimized addresses are good for a lower latency, but that is not all apparently, Dustin previously stated that changes are done on the Asian optimized IPv4 blocks to "correct any routing irregularities, congestion and other negative effects that Chinese (and some other country's) ISP's frequently have."

They accept payments using Credit Cards, and PayPal. Remember to read their Terms Of Service document and their Service Level Agreement document for more information prior to ordering.

Community Roundup – October/November 2014

Community Roundup – October/November 2014

Tags: community roundup Date/Time: December 3, 2014 @ 1:00 pm, by Maarten Kossen

It's time to bring back a long-lost tradition: the Community Roundup! In this posts, which we will try to do monthly from now on, we'll give you some highlights of what happened the previous month(s).

If you have any news or items you would like to have considered for this roundup, please PM them to @CommunityRoundup on LowEndTalk.com!

LowEndTalk helps XFuse_Duke

XFuse_Duke, a long-time member of LowEndTalk and a VPS hosting provider, has had a very unfortunate accident on his motorcycle resulting in a badly injured leg. As a result of that he was not only out of a job, but he also had hospital bills piling up. In his initial report he already had over $85,000 worth of bills with more to come. Community member @jvnadr was kind enough to make this known to the LowEndTalk community. As a result of that thread, Duke got quite some donations thanks to the generosity of both providers and other members. He's doing a lot better now and both him and his wife would like to thank the LowEndTalk community for all their help!

INIZ ownership change

Patrick Hayward sold INIZ recently.  It is now owned by 'Zeniva Limited'. According to the official e-mail that was sent out the plans and pricing are to remain the same, as are the number of brands they own and operate. Patrick will stay aboard for a while to ensure a smooth transition. Support is going to be a focus point for the new owner; according to some it has not been up to par, so hopefully the new owners will be able to change that!

123Systems ownership change

Only months ago, ChicagoVPS acquired 123Sytems from former owner Andrew. Unfortunately, they were not able to turn the company into something a lot better. A couple of weeks ago, Velocity Servers Network Exchange (VSNX), the owner of LowEndBox, LowEndTalk, and ColoCrossing, purchased 123Systems from ChicagoVPS' parent. Hopefully they will be able to turn things around at 123Systems and improve the quality of the servers and service!

New hosts on LowEndBox

Over the past two months, three hosts were featured for the first time:

  • Frixel Solutions: @shovenose's new adventure; after shovehost stopped trading, Michael took some time to start up a new business and do it right.
  • VirtNetwork: @GVH_Alex's new adventure: after having spent time as a GreenValueHost employee, Alex started his own business.
  • SSDHosting.io: a UK-based entity with servers in Hemel Heampstead, UK; a location that's quite rare around the LowEnd scene

Out of these three, SSDHosting.io seems to have gotten the best reviews thus far. Hopefully we'll keep seeing all of them back in the future, so good luck to you guys and welcome to LowEnd!

Final notes

That's it for this update! Again, if you have anything to share with us for our next update, don't hesitate to PM @CommunityRoundup at LowEndTalk!

QuadraNet – $5.81/month KVM in Los Angeles – Free goodies in the USA

QuadraNet – $5.81/month KVM in Los Angeles – Free goodies in the USA

Tags: cloud, dallas, freebies, kvm, los angeles, miami, quadranet.com, ssd, USA Date/Time: December 4, 2014 @ 1:00 pm, by Rashid Alkhaili

QuadraNet is a registered LLC, which has been running since 2001.

Network information

Network information for their Dallas and Miami locations will follow later.

HudsonValleyHost is part of the Velocity Servers Network Exchange, the owner or LowEndBox.com and LowEndTalk.com as well as ColoCrossing. While they initially started as a separate entity, they eventually got absorbed by VSNX. Having said that, the domain hudsonvalleyhost.com has been around since 2004 and I believe they have been doing business since. These offers are available in either of five locations, with the exception of the Atom Dedicated server. The dedicated server takes between 48 and 72 hours to be provisioned. While there has been one negative review on their last offer here, Ernie is always quick to respond to questions there and at the helpdesk. Please let us know your experiences with HudsonValleyHost in the comments. For now, enjoy these offers!

HudsonValleyHost  accept payments via credit cards and PayPal. They offer a 99.9% uptime guarantee but don't seem to offer refunds. Servers come with full root access and will be setup instantly once payment has been made. According to their website, HudsonValleyHost have picked up several awards over the past few years. cPanel can be added for an additional $15/month. As usual, we suggest you read their Terms of Service before purchasing.
